On the face of it, this may look like just a new color variant. But OPPO seemed to have intended on improving its performance on this one. They’ve given this version an increase in RAM capacity by adding 4GB more.
Before I get ahead of myself, here’s a quick look at the specs of the Reno8 5G Sunkissed Beige:
- CPU - MediaTek Dimensity 1300
- RAM - 12GB (+3GB)
- Storage - 256GB (UFS 3.1)
- Display - 6.4”, FHD, AMOLED, 90Hz refresh rate
- Battery and charging - 4500mAh, 80W Fast charging
And underneath is a USB charging cable and its 80W SuperVOOC charging brick.
We will be testing this one out for our full review but it's likely that this will perform exactly like the first Reno8. That can get the phone fully charged in under 30 minutes.
OPPO calls this color beige but this looks closer to gold than the first release. You can really see the grain or brushed pattern which I think kind of looks like fireworks, if that makes sense.
Visually you’ll think it's roughly textured but this is actually very smooth to touch.
There’s still the slope that gradually raises the camera module, a design which was probably lifted from the OPPO Find X5. This makes holding the phone feel a little bit easier to grip and slightly more comfortable. Just a tiny bit.
The ports are still placed below while the power button is on the left and the volume rocker is on the right.
Display
Let’s now proceed to powering this device so we can see the display. OPPO still retained the original 6.4-inch AMOLED screen. Identical to the older one, this is still very bright and feels fluid at its 90hz refresh rate.
This also supports an under display fingerprint scanner while the front camera is placed on the upper left of the display.
I do prefer the camera to be in the middle for taking selfies but for watching videos, the camera on the side does make it less distracting.
Performance test
I was still able to run the game at ultra settings at mostly 30FPS with some frame drops when things get heavy. Which is expected given that this is a very graphically intensive game.
Having that said, surely you’ll be able to enjoy playing games on this with its relatively powerful hardware and smooth display.
Also, the review unit that I got did ship out with ColorOS 12.1 but OPPO did say this will be right away getting ColorOS 13 and Android 13.
Having experienced ColorOS 13 on the Reno8 Pro, I am really looking forward to having that here as that would greatly improve user experience. It's even updating its RAM expansion of up to 8GB to add to the 12GB that's already built-in.
For that, I will also be testing this for multitasking heavy apps to take advantage of the large RAM but so far, the performance I’m getting seems promising.
Dual flagship cameras
For its cameras, this is also sporting two flagship camera sensors. A 50MP Sony IMX 766 for the main camera and the 32MP Sony IMX709 in front. This also has an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro shooter.
I’ve already tried multiple phones having the same sensor and the Reno8 is no different. This has excellent cameras and thankfully, this phone did get to me during the holidays so I was able to use this for taking photos during our simple celebration.
